Equal Access at Work Project
Equal Access at Work Project
The Accessible Canada Act is a law. The Government of Canada passed the law in 2019. The goal of the Act is to have a country without barriers. This is especially important to people with disabilities.
The law applies to programs and services that are under control of the federal government. The law works in many different areas to remove barriers. One of those areas is work and employment.
The federal government gave funding to community groups to help. They asked the groups to find barriers in work and employment. They asked the groups about rules that could help to find and remove barriers. They gave the groups funding to do projects in these areas.
People First of Canada did one of these projects over the past three years. We worked with Inclusion Canada and the Canadian Institute for Citizenship and Inclusion on this project.
We talked to 209 people. This included people with intellectual disabilities, employment specialists and employers. Our members were part of interviews, focus groups, surveys and the advisory group.
Now that the project is finished, we have shared what we learned with the Government of Canada. We are also excited to share it here with you!
Here is the plain language Executive Summary of our research report. The summary is available in Plain English and Plain French.
